“ALTERNATIVE AND RENEWABLE ENERGY PATHFINDER”

REQUIREMENTS

1. You must cite at least one Internet site, one database article, and one book source.
2. Two articles excellent overview articles are on reserve from CQ Researcher. They can count as a database source for anyone who wishes to cite them.

SEARCH STRATEGY

Step 1

1. Highlight or underline key search terms in your assignment.
2. Search terms = solar power , wind farms , or hybrid electric cars
3. Think of appropriate synonyms for key terms
4. Search terms synonyms = solar energy, wind power, geothermal power
5. Choose the following databases from the NCS Upper School Library Web site

Step 2 Ebsco's Host

1. Make sure that you place a check mark in the full text part of the limit your search results part of the database before typing in your search terms.
2. Type appropriate search terms by combing them with the Boolean operator word “ and”
   Examples: solar power and statistics
   wind power and research
   fuels cells and advantages

Step 3 SIRS

1. By the Keyword/Natural Language place, place a black dot in the empty circle.
2. Click on Advanced Search and type in pertinent search terms. The Boolean operator and is already supplied. Remember to use the Boolean operators or, and not to search more precisely.
   Examples : hydroelectric or hydropower
   biofuels or biomass
   nuclear power or nuclear energy not weapons

Step 4 Mr. Cooke's Web Sites
Go to Mr. Cooke's Earth Science class site and click on the appropriate links.

Step 5 Search the Books on the Library Reserve Cart

Step 6. Citation Format
Click on the link “ Citation Format ” to learn how to site different material format sources.
